It was a chilly day here today. The high temperature was -4 below zero.
Hairy Woodpecker
The Hairy Woodpecker was all puffed up trying to keep warm. He was under the suet feeder and was probably taking a rest while digesting a healthy dose of suet.

I just wanted to thank you for the great job you have doing in writing about the Crane Lake area. Those of us who would like to be there, but are earning a living in the city must enjoy the north woods vicariously. Your posts have been wonderful throughout the year. We bought the “American Bird Names” book on your suggestion have found it to be delightful. I appreciate your informal, but scientific approach to the flora and fauna of the area. Please keep it up!
